Light, dark, lager, pilsner, Altbier or black beer? Which beer do you like best? No matter which type you like - we'll tell you where you should definitely go as a beer fan in Leipzig.

Gose

Have you ever tried Leipziger Gose? The sour beer, which is actually a very special type of beer, was the most drunk beer in the trade fair city around 1900, so Leipzig also referred to itself as the "Gose city". Like most beers, Gose used to be created through spontaneous fermentation. Today, Gose is produced using the top-fermented brewing method. In addition to alcoholic fermentation, bacterial lactic acid fermentation also takes place. This leads to the typical sour taste. And it gets even more special: cooking salt and coriander are further additions to the gose.

Can't imagine? Give it a try! For example in the Gosenschenke without hesitation or in the Bayerischer Bahnhof. Because you don't leave Leipzig without drinking a typical Gose.

Sternburg

Whether hanging out on the Sachsenbrücke or in the Park, the most popular refreshment is the Sternburg Bier. The hop-based drink brewed in Leipzig is particularly popular with young people and students. The origins of the Leipzig brewery date back to the 13th century. The range has grown steadily to this day: Radler, Diesel, Urtyp, Doppelkaramel, Schwarzbier, Pils and Hefeweizen. The bestseller, however, is Sternburg Export. You can find it in almost every Späti in Leipzig.

If you want to find out more about our "Sterni", then we can warmly recommend a brewery tour.

Irish pubs

Experience the Irish art of brewing in the middle of Leipzig? No problem! Leipzig has a wide range of Irish pubs to offer. Centrally located is the Kildare City Pub, which you can find in Barfußgässchen. Here you can enjoy a delicious Guiness and also watch live broadcasts of various soccer matches. Irish holidays - such as St. Patrick's Day - are also celebrated in the pub in style.

But many other Irish pubs are also worth a visit: Killywilly in the Südvorstadt district serves Irish beer as well as typical Irish food from the island. The quaint pubs of Morrison's Irish Pub, McCormack's or Noels Ballroom you should also have seen them if you want to judge the Irish drinking culture in our city. ;)

Craft beer from the white magpie

The topic of craft beer is currently on everyone's lips and, of course, Leipzig also has a few juggernauts in this field. The beers of the brand "Weisse Elster" stand out with their special taste. Taste your way through the range, from Pilsner to Pale Ale and Monohop Helles to sweet Red Ale. Weisse-Elster beers are created in Leipzig and brewed in Chemnitz with the best raw materials and lots of love. You can try the good stuff at the Craft Beer Bar Goldhopfen in Leipzig, for example.

Experience beer

Beer connoisseurs know: Hop tea can not only be drunk, but also experienced. Beer experiences in Leipzig can be found, for example, at beer seminars on various topics at Getränke Feinkost or at "Bier ab Vier" at Dr. Hops, where sweet delicacies are served alongside beer specialties. Coffee and cake in the afternoon becomes beer and cake - you shouldn't miss out on this experience! Or you can enjoy a beer in the Goldhopfen at the Wise Elster - Pubquiz and fire up your gray cells. And of course there's more beer to be won. Things get particularly tasty, in the truest sense of the word, at Cliff's Brauwerk. Not only because the owner now pursues his hobby professionally and brews every beer himself, but also because you can eat whatever you want here. Bring your own bread or order pizza from your favorite Italian. No matter which culinary delicacy, you will definitely find the right beer at Cliff.
