Bitterfeld arch

Another work of art was opened to the public in August 2006. With the "Bitterfeld Arch", the artist Prof. Claus Bury from Frankfurt am Main created a unique vantage point over the newly created cultural and lake landscape of the region on a former high dump.

The arch construction is based on two diagonally positioned, pointed oval wing shapes and staggers in three stages into the depths. A ramp system with a 6° gradient is suspended in the two intermediate spaces. The two pairs of wings of the overall architecture are clearly inclined inwards, giving the arch both additional elegance and structural strength. The aforementioned ramps lead upwards in an elongated zig-zag course two by five footpaths made of non-slip and close-meshed galvanized steel grating. All paths are stepless and secured by metal railings made of narrow, rhythmic bar grids. Each bend in the 540-metre-long trail has a small platform including a bench. The top ramp ends in a balcony that juts out over the arch and invites you to linger high above Bitterfeld.
