Broad Tower Delitzsch

The Breite Turm, part of the medieval town fortifications, was built in 1396 and secured the eastern entrance to the old town. Directly adjacent to it was the Breite Tor gate, which served as an entrance and exit for locals and foreigners. Until the 16th century, the Breite Turm was alternately referred to as the Leipziger, Eilenburger, Hausmann or Hoher Turm. Until 1902, the tower served as the residence and workplace of the city's tower keeper, also known as the Hausmann or Türmer. It reaches a height of 46 meters and has 130 steps.
