In the historic center of the idyllic village of Höfgen near Grimma you will find the "Wassermühle", a technical display facility with a museum exhibition and the associated historic inn "Zur Wassermühle".

The watermill was first mentioned in a document in 1721. It was used as a grain mill until 1954.

The mill is driven by an overshot water wheel, with the necessary water being supplied from above via a channel. This mill drive is an invention of the late Middle Ages and has only been documented in Germany since the 14th century.

The mill has been open to the public as a museum since 1976. It provides a vivid insight into the functional milling technology and the working and living conditions of the millers at the time.
In four former living and utility rooms, visitors can see a miller's apartment furnished with historical furniture.

Attention: unfortunately no barrier-free access - by prior arrangement with the museum staff by telephone, wheelchairs can be placed on the first floor.
