Sawmill Thallwitz
The first mention of this technical monument, incidentally the only one of its kind in Saxony, dates back to 1790. It is also possible that it is much older. Historical maps at the beginning of the 17th century already show such a mill on the Lossa.
The water wheel with a diameter of 2.60 m and a power of approx. 10 hp did its job reliably until 1985 and drove the sawmill's technology. From 1985, an electric motor took over the task of the water wheel. Sawmill operation was finally discontinued in 1990.
This technical monument was prevented from falling into disrepair by the initiatives of our association and the municipality of Thallwitz in 1998 with the reconstruction of the water channel, the water wheel and the wheel shaft. On September 24, 1998 the sawmill could once again be operated with water power. Many parts of the sawmill are still in their original condition. You can see this for yourself by taking a look in the cellar or on the sledge for the tree trunks.
The local heritage association has taken over the maintenance and care of the sawmill and ensures that the technology still works reliably during guided tours or on the regular mill days.
