In the newly created city park on the southern shore of Zwenkauer See, locals and visitors have the opportunity to take a journey through time. Besides petrified wood and erratics discovered at the spot where currently the largest lake in the southern Leipzig lake district is forming, four information boards provide details about the geological history of the former mining region. Locals and visitors learn interesting facts about archaeology, tertiary forests, marine fossils, and the ice age through graphics and texts. A visit that often astonishes is definitely worthwhile. Did you know that manatees and giant sharks once inhabited the Zwenkau area?
