Leipzig's best known pub mile is located in the area around the Barfußgässchen. A stroll along the Drallewatsch is an absolute must!
The Barfußgässchen was founded in 1996 by two dozen Leipzig innkeepers, and the area in and around it goes by the name "Drallewatsch", an old Saxon word meaning "to experience something" as well as "to stroll from pub to pub".
In this, the oldest part of the city, you can get a sense of how close together the buildings used to be constructed. Historical buildings from the Renaissance, Baroque and Wilhelminian periods sit side by side. In the Barfußgasse, Fleischergasse and Klostergasse you can find lots of restaurants with a wide variety of cusisine on offer – from traditional bourgeois restaurants to hip, alternative pubs.
