Schuke organ in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig
The New Gewandhaus was built from 1977. In 1981, organ builder Schuke delivered a new organ with 89 stops and 6638 pipes, which was the largest new organ built in the GDR.
In 1987, the organ reached its final stage, which had already been planned in 1977. In the course of this, the organ parts manufacturer Otto Heuss developed a second, mobile console. This can be placed anywhere on the orchestra podium and transmits its signals digitally - a first in organ building - using fiber optics.
In 2008, the organ building company Schuke carried out a general cleaning. The electrics were renewed, two additional stops were added and the electronics were converted to a computerized control system.
