Experience the OPUS KLASSIK award-winning orchestra in the Leipzig region

The Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie stands out from the German orchestral landscape with its unique wind ensemble and has been impressing audiences in the Leipzig cultural area (Leipzig district and North Saxony), but also throughout Germany and Europe, for decades with its extraordinary variety of sounds and leaves audiences with an unforgettable musical experience.

Lovers of classical music are always fascinated by the energy and passion that the musicians exude on stage and are carried away by the special sound.

Austrian-born Peter Sommerer has been Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra since 2021, setting new accents in the orchestra's musical work with his refreshing style.

In 2023, the Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie was awarded the prestigious international music prize OPUS KLASSIK (successor to the Echo Klassik) as "Ensemble of the Year" for its recording "La Valse" under the direction of Peter Sommerer.  This award is another milestone in the orchestra's eventful history. The album was released in October 2022 on the "Hänssler Classic" label.

Symphonic Concerts
The Saxon Wind Philharmonic is characterized by a multi-faceted sound spectrum, which is also made possible by the special arrangements for wind ensemble. Both contemporary original compositions and transcriptions of masterpieces from music history are interpreted in a manner appropriate to the work. The various chamber music formations expand the artistic possibilities and enrich the high flexibility of the ensemble.

Every year, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra's summer open-air concerts at unusual venues in the Leipzig region are particularly impressive, such as the events at Trebsen Castle, Taucha Manor, Delitzsch Baroque Castle or the "Summer Classics on the Lake" on the lake stage on the Biedermeier beach of Schladitzer See.

At home in the region - internationally acclaimed
The Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra found a permanent home in Bad Lausick in 2011 with the construction of the new German Wind Academy as a rehearsal and concert venue. The concert series there and in Trebsen, Bad Düben, Oschatz, Markkleeberg, Schkeuditz and Colditz are crowd-pullers and an enrichment of cultural life in the region.

In addition to the concerts that have been established for many years in the Leipzig cultural area, the ensemble's appeal extends far beyond the borders of the districts of Leipzig and North Saxony. Due to the orchestra's special position as the only wind ensemble among the 129 German concert and theater orchestras and its established artistic qualities, the orchestra has repeatedly toured throughout Europe, to China, Venezuela and Australia, acting as a sounding cultural ambassador for the region. In 2026, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic will accept an invitation to perform at the New York International Music Festival, including a concert in the famous Carnegie Hall.
