Marienkirche Roßwein

Construction began around 1513 with the choir, before the nave was completed between 1595 and 1611 and the west tower was erected. The church was badly destroyed in a fire in 1809. It was rebuilt from 1810 to 1815 in its current neoclassical form, incorporating older parts. Subsequent conversions and restorations took place in 1862 and between 1884 and 1897, including a comprehensive renovation in 1939. Architecturally, the building presents itself as a three-aisled hall church with a gallery hall and Gothic net vaults in the choir, supplemented by neo-Gothic elements at the west portal. The furnishings include a classicist altar from 1814, a wooden pulpit from the 19th century and an important Schmeisser organ with 43 stops.
