Nature trail in Oberholz

The circular route with cross-connection starts at Oberholz station in Großpösna. The stop is located on the Leipzig – Geithain – Chemnitz railway line (trains run hourly). The small station is under the care of the Friends of the Großpösna Railway Association, which organizes exhibitions several times a year. On Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße, you pass the “Büffeltränke” inn and after the playground turn right onto the Langer Weg. Behind the railway tracks, you come upon a memorial stone commemorating the transfer of the forest by Duke Moritz of Saxony to the University of Leipzig in 1544. After the first display boards, turn right onto Saulöcherweg and walk to the shelter. Then turn right onto Butterweg or Oelzschauer Weg. At the second crossroads, turn onto Sandgrubenweg, which is a cross-connection of the nature trail. After a few meters, you reach the forest activity center, which invites you to take a short break. Back on Butterweg, which merges right into Störmthaler Weg, boards are set up that are dedicated especially to the birdlife. At the end of Störmthaler Weg, just before the railway tracks, the Botanical Garden is located on the left side. It is always worth a visit. Until a few years ago, it was also operated as a respected training institution for druggists and pharmacists. To conclude, a snack at the “Büffeltränke” is recommended.
