If you have fallen in love with the arcades and passageway courtyards during your stay in Leipzig, but are more fans of major Hollywood films, we recommend a trip to the cinema at Cinestar, right in Petersbogen Leipzig. This is made possible by what are known as D-Box Motion Seats, special motorized seats whose movements are precisely synchronized with the action in the film and let you feel the events on the screen with your own body. Industrial architecture and film art - that's what the Luru-Kino in Leipzig's trendy Plagwitz district is all about. The Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei is considered one of Europe's most important contemporary art galleries and, alongside major works of art, also houses a small but excellent cinema. Luru-Kino is the perfect place for you if you want to enjoy a sophisticated film evening in a cosy atmosphere - because the cinema has just 50 seats. In summer, the film experience also moves outdoors. From 10 p.m., films in their original language and non-commercial arthouse productions are shown on the open-air screen. Look out for the large chimney on the Spinnerei site - that's where you'll find the open-air cinema.

Where equestrian sport is usually practised at the highest level, one of the largest open-air cinemas in Leipzig invites you to linger and enjoy during the summer months. The Filmnächte im Scheibenholz open their doors from 13 July to 21 August and offer visitors current blockbusters as well as film hits that never go out of fashion. Take a seat in one of the comfortable lounge chairs and enjoy the atmosphere.

You can also enjoy a true cinema experience when you head to the south of Leipzig. Where food production and the storage of canned goods once took centre stage, you will now find one of Leipzig’s young hotspots. Feinkost on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße offers a wide range of events all year round. In summer, you will find an open-air cinema there, featuring a programme of sophisticated art-house films. A real plus: the summer cinema at Feinkost is covered and therefore rainproof. 

Anyone who wants to watch current films in a historic setting should head to East Leipzig. The Regina Palast Leipzig has been located there for more than 100 years. Where the first films flickered across the screen back in 1919, the now 6 auditoriums still impress with historic charm and comfortable cinema seats. And if you are looking for moderate admission and snack prices, you have come to the right place. 

Another long-standing Leipzig cinema institution is Schauburg Leipzig in western Leipzig. The heritage-listed building in Art Deco style opened in 1928 and remains one of Leipzig's smaller cinemas today. Alongside current films, the Schauburg Leipzig cinema program includes sophisticated commercial films, films in their original language and themed film series. The Schauburg is also known for its comfortable cinema seats - they are said to be the most comfortable in all of Leipzig!

The oldest cinema in Leipzig opened back in 1915. The Passage Kinos combine cinema tradition with typical Leipzig architecture. Leipzig is home to the largest connected system of arcades and passageway courtyards, which dates back to the flourishing beginnings of its trade fair history. As you wander through the arcades, you will come across the Jägerhof Passage and the Passage Kinos. Fans of arthouse films will also find plenty to enjoy here. By the way: the screens at the Passage Kinos are named after former Leipzig cinemas - ASTORIA, UNIVERSUM, WINTERGARTEN, FILMECK and CASINO.
