Events for Easter 2026 - Leipzig will be so colorful!

The traditional Easter Spectacular will once again take place this year from April 3 to 6, 2026 at Zoo Leipzig. The diverse zoo adventure for the whole family starts right at the main entrance, where you will be greeted by stilt walkers in Easter costumes before embarking on an animal Easter walk.

What other highlights await you? An egg race with quiz, animal face painting, baking bread on a stick around the Easter fire, creative games of skill and lots of other great hands-on activities. There's something for everyone here!

From 1 pm to 4 pm, you can also meet zoo mascot Tammi on his tours of the zoo - and of course take your very own souvenir photo!

Our tip: The children's book reading "Knolle's Journey: Adventures in Illnau" at the Entdeckerhaus Arche, where you can go on an exciting adventure journey with the little forest spirit. This takes place on all 3 days at 11 am and 3 pm.

Not in Leipzig over Easter? No problem! You can also discover the GRASSI Museum of Applied Artsdigitally thanks to the Multimedia Guide. For example, you can be guided through the permanent exhibition, put together your own tours or discover the museum in a rally. You can even take a separate tour with the little ones, which playfully shows them around the museum - all via app!

Since January 2026, the Panometer has been home to the "Antarctica" exhibition. The new 360° panorama by artist Yadegar Asisi explores the icy expanse of this impressive natural phenomenon and continent - from mighty glaciers and glistening icebergs to the animal world with penguins, whales and seals. 

The circular image uses the waterline as a central element: ice formations rise up above, while hidden life becomes visible below. The 32-metre-high panorama platform gives the impression of standing on the water in front of the ice sheet - a glimpse into a world that is otherwise only accessible to a few researchers.

If you want to gain an exciting insight into the history of printing technology, this is the place for you: in the Museum of Printing Arts, around 90 functional machines from 550 years of printing culture can be experienced up close on four floors, some of which are even still in working order! Here, museum and (printing) workshop go hand in hand, so that several centuries of printing and media history become tangible.

In the Easter vacations, the museum is also offering a practical holiday program consisting of various courses and workshops, which revolve around printing over the past centuries. For example, you can roll and stamp spring-colored pattern pictures, the beautiful press magnolia blossoms onto a lino printing plate or rotogravure animals onto CDs and Tetrapacks. Perfect for children of all ages!

Treat yourself to a painting break - the easiest way to do this is with the Home painting service from Made by you in Leipzig. Simply select the ceramics and paints you would like to use from the online gallery and let the Made by you team know what you want. You can then pick up your materials on site: The store is open Tuesday and Wednesday as well as Friday and Saturday from 1 to 8 pm.

Of course, you can also paint on site at Made by you during these opening hours. However, you should call ahead to find out whether a table is available at your preferred time.

A little tip: The self-designed plates, bowls, vases and the like are perfect for gifting!

If you want to go to church at Easter, we have a few suggestions for you. The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Thomaskirche offers several church services. On Easter Sunday, for example, the "Easter Mass" with the St. Thomas Choir and a festive service with Thomanerchor and the Gewandhausorchester.

By the way: admission to both events is free.

In the Catholic Provostry of St. Trinitatis Leipzig, several church services take place during Carinthian Week and on the Easter weekend. For example, how about the celebration of the Easter Vigil or the Holy Masses on Easter Monday at 9.30 am, 11 am and 6 pm?
