It's getting Christmassy here: the most beautiful Advent markets in Leipzig and the region
The classic: the Leipzig Christmas market
What makes the Leipzig Christmas Market so special? It is the classic among the many Christmas markets and is the center of the Christmas hustle and bustle in the city center. On Augustusplatz, a variety of specially made hot drinks take your taste buds to a whole new level in the South Tyrolean village. The Finnish Village right next door awaits you with freshly smoked flamed salmon and delicious Glögli. Here you can get very close to the original origins of Santa Claus and experience the Finnish Christmas tradition for yourself. And if you hop over to the other side of the square, the magical fairytale world in front of Leipzig Opera invites you to discover it. Can you match the huge displays to the individual fairy tales?
A little further into the city, history comes to life and the Historical Christmas Market at the Naschmarkt contributes no less. For an exciting insight into the art of traditional craftsmanship, you should definitely stop by.
A wonderful Christmas market on the Nikolaikirchhof also awaits you in front of the imposing Nikolaikirche. In addition to many stalls, you will also find the historical pyramid with warming Feuerzangenbowle - the best and most popular Feuerzangenbowle in town!
If you continue your way from there through the Schumachergäßchen and the Salzgäßchen towards the market square, you will come to the historical carousel. A ride is definitely part of a visit to the Leipzig Christmas market. Our tip: don't drink too much mulled wine beforehand ;)
The heart of the Christmas magic is then on the Leipzig market square. There you will spot the beautiful Christmas tree. Under its watchful eye, the hustle and bustle of the Christmas market continues between countless huts and invites you to linger and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. One highlight is the regular Santa Claus consultation hour. Great experiences for the whole family are guaranteed!
When? November 25 to December 23, 11 am to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday until 10 pm, on December 22 and 23 from 11 am to 8 pm (on the last day, only the stalls on the market square are open!)

Felsenkeller Christmas market in Plagwitz
The Felsenkeller Christmas market opens in the beer garden of the renowned Felsenkeller in Lipzig's trendy Plagwitz district. Here you can buy artisan goods at various stalls. Handicrafts? With blacksmith Martin, you can learn how to forge your own horseshoes or coffin nails. There is also excitement for the little ones: A "Laterna Magica" shows Grimm's fairy tales every hour, while yellow stars shine "from the sky" high up in the old chestnut trees. A truly magical ambience!
The gastronomy is not neglected either: crêperie, bakery, taverns, roasteries, almond distillery, garlic bread baker and high-quality mulled wine make browsing through the alternative treasures even more enjoyable.
By the way: At the weekends, a small stage music and juggling programs are performed. For example, "Feuer-Reiner" on the first weekend of Advent will show why he has this strange name.
When? November 27 to 30. December, Monday to Friday from 15-21:30, Saturday 11-21:30 and Sunday from 11-20:00

"Christmas scent and twinkling lights" in the Gohliser Schlösschen
You can experience a pre-Christmas time like in a fairy tale at the Gohliser Schlösschen. The baroque gem in the Gohlis district rings in the festive season with "the scent of Christmas and twinkling lights" . You can find inspiration for unique Christmas gifts at the Art in Advent exhibition. Art and regional handicrafts - sculptures, paintings, photographs and prints - are presented in the West Arcade of the Gohliser Schlösschen.
Culinary delights are not neglected either. Those with a sweet tooth in particular will get their money's worth with home-baked sweet or savory waffles, roasted almonds and homemade mulled wine, punch and hot juices. The offer is rounded off by a varied cultural program - choir music, instrumentalists, joint Advent carol singing, tower blowers, Christmas stories and much more.
Watch out! The Gohliser Schlösschen deliberately does not describe its offer as a classic Christmas market. Instead, the aim is to create an atmospheric and contemplative place for art, culture, conversation and social interaction.
When? November 26 to December 21, Wednesday to Saturday 3 to 7 pm,
Sunday 12 to 6 pm
Where? Gohliser Schlösschen, Menckestraße 23, 04155 Leipzig

Vegan Christmas market - The festival of love
The Vegan Christmas Market in Leipzig will once again take place this year on the grounds of the Philippuskirche between Plagwitz and Lindenau - directly on the Karl Heine Canal. For an entire weekend, Christmas will once again be all about sustainability: the Christmas traditions and culinary dishes will remain the same, but the market will pay special attention to animal welfare through innovations. The stalls do not trade commercially in animal products and therefore do not support any form of animal exploitation.
You can expect savory and sweet delicacies, many of which are organic, with every dish served in reusable or plastic-free dishes, several shows and live music as well as stalls with handicrafts for sustainable, fair and innovative gift ideas.
The small supporting program with many great and vegan exhibitors takes the contemplative meaning of Christmas to a special level, which is thought-provoking and yet bursting with enjoyment. But see for yourself!
When? December 6 and 7, 12 to 8 p.m.
Where? Philippuskirche, Aurelienstraße 54, 04177 Leipzig
