New Year's Eve in Leipzig - it's going to be a blast!

It's that time again: another year is over and it's time to say goodbye in style. But what's going on in Leipzig on New Year's Eve 2025?
Do you already know where, how and with whom you're starting the New Year? With friends or family? As a dignified raclette evening or with a big party? We'll show you what Leipzig has in store for you both during the day and in the evening.

With our tips, you won't just usher in the Year 2026 with the quiet "poof" of a firecracker, but with fireworks of excitement!

Recharge your batteries in the morning

Can't wait to finally slide into the new year with your friends? Patience, patience! Because there's nothing like a orderly refreshment on a day like this. You'll need plenty of energy to plunge full steam ahead into the new year, so sleep in without hesitation. Yawn heartily once more and stretch your limbs, then you can start the perfect 365th day in Leipzig (all heroes who have to work half a day or even longer today can simply join our program later).

However, it remains cosy for now, because first you have to fortify yourself for the long day. Of course, 31 December is also something special in gastronomy, which is why brunching on this day is not so easy. However, you can always rely on the classic on New Year's Eve in Leipzig: The Alex am Naschmarkt invites you to a breakfast buffet until 2 o'clock.

Our alternative suggestion: treat yourself to a breakfast at Café Kandler at St. Thomas Church. There are various breakfast offers in international style. A sweet start to the day with crêpes and croissants like in France, tasty sausages and bacon American style or hearty Italian ham - you are guaranteed to find what you are looking for at the traditional Kandler. Good coffee and delicious cakes are among the café's flagship dishes, so you ll be well catered for in this respect too.

The popular Café Maître on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße offers you a typical French menu from 9 a.m. that leaves nothing to be desired. The in-house patisserie serves delicious croissants and fabulous brioches. And if you fancy dessert after breakfast, the adjacent Maître Pâtisserie is the perfect place for you.

Freshly fortified, you can now continue your journey. To prepare your eyes for midnight, a visit to the Panometer Leipzig is a good idea. The artist Yadegar Asisi exhibits gigantic panoramic images here, for which there is also a matching museum exhibition. Let yourself be transported into the perspective of an ant in the current exhibition and visit the exhibition "THE CATHEDRAL OF MONET - Freedom of Painting". Take enough time to let the 360-degree artwork work its magic on you, because you will always discover something new! Or you can take the opportunity to spend the last noon of the year at Zoo Leipzig, which is open until 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Icy activities in the afternoon

After a relaxed start to the day, you should be ready for a little more action by now. Now we'll see whether you ate too much at breakfast or not, because it's off to the ice! Whether you're an ice skating pro or a wobbly dachshund, a winter without ice skating isn't a real winter. There's still some time until midnight, so get your skates on and head to the ice rink. It's best to skate through the anona ICEDOME Kohlrabizirkus from noon to 6 pm. So you can practice the perfect way to start the new year.

Lauschig - Leipzig evening

It may already be dark outside now, but there is still some time before the peak of the night. To avoid the first signs of tiredness in the early evening, it's best to head to one of Leipzig's scene miles. You can either walk to Gottschedstraße, stroll along Karli or walk into the inner-city Barfußgäßchen. Here you will definitely find a place where you can warm up and enjoy a hot meal. It's best to drink a strong coffee to stay awake late on New Year's Eve. Perhaps a cold drink or two will sneak in between coffee and dinner, as the three pub districts with their numerous bars are predestined for this.

You shouldn't get lost in the bars, however, because we still have a lot planned for you! Now it's time to move your limbs and get some fresh air. On an evening walk, the temperatures are sure to drop quickly into the low single digits, so you should be well prepared! It's best to make a detour to the Röseling. Here you will find delicious dips, snacks and wines until 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve in addition to high-proof refreshments - naturally distilled schnapps from Leipzig.

If you don't want to miss out on culture on this evening, why not pay a visit to one of the many cultural sites in Leipzig! For example, the Oper Leipzig is full of sound: with the Gala zum Jahreswechsel experience lively overtures by Mozart and Rossini, passionate arias from the great operas of the repertoire and unforgettable Broadway melodies. Or you can visit the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, directly on the opposite side of Augustusplatz, and listen to the Gewandhaus Orchestra at the New Year's Eve concert, which promises a more than festive end to the year.

Whether opera or Gewandhaus, drama or concert - there are of course many more more event tips on New Year's Eve in our city. Click through and get your tickets now!

When the corks pop

Now the clock hands are steadily approaching twelve and you should gradually look for a place that offers you a good view of how New Year's Eve is celebrated in Leipzig -  namely with many small and large fireworks displays spread all over the city&nbsp.
It's best to aim for one of two destinations: the Fockeberg or the Monument to the Battle of the Nations

The Fockeberg in the south of the city is a perfect vantage point thanks to its elevation. Between the trees, you have a good view of the city skyline. At midnight, you'll have the best view of the spectacle of lights taking over the sky alongside the silhouettes of the City Tower and the New Town Hall.

To the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, you should allow a little more time if you re planning to walk the whole way. But maybe you'll have a few snacks from the Röseling with you as loyal companions along the way. Here, at the eastern gates of the city, you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. However, you can't go up to the viewing platform on New Year's Eve. The fireworks in the city center are therefore more of a minor matter from here. But that doesn't matter, because the main role here is played by smaller private fireworks displays, which look simply wonderful in the presence of the illuminated monument.

You would much rather be in the middle of it all? The best panoramic view for New Year's Eve in Leipzig is from the viewing platform of the City-Hochhaus. At a height of around 130 meters, you can look up and even over the city lights. You can find out the price for this premium view from the Panoramatower on enquiry. A sparkling wine is of course included in the price

Make the night the first day of the new year

After the fireworks, the night really gets going, because the New Year should be welcomed properly. All dance lovers will get their money's worth in Leipzig. Our city's clubs really dress up at the end of the year  to end 2025 with music and dancing? Definitely a good idea!

The Moritzbastei for example: MORITZBASTEI New Year's Eve Party 2025. And at Felsenkeller, you can travel back in time and celebrate in the elegant style of the 1920s at Ballroom Boheme for a wild party. By the way: right next door, you can get your money's worth in NAUMANNs Gaststube at the New Year's Eve dance. Are you more spontaneous? Then simply pop into one of the numerous pubs on Leipzig's Karli - there's no program here, but there is plenty of hospitality.

Whatever location you choose, one thing is certain: No one sleeps in Leipzig on New Year's Eve!
