A fascinating mix of water and culture, action and relaxation as well as past and present – all of this is the Leipzig New Lakeland. Here, natural waterways connect the cultural city of Leipzig with the newly created lakes in the surrounding area.

The landscape took on a new face after the end of the great brown coal era. Today, you'll find nature at its purest.

Many lakes, cycling and hiking trails as well as numerous leisure attractions are waiting for you to discover them. In addition, plenty of festivals, sights and sporting events draw visitors to the lakes and show just how much is possible here – in, by and on the water.

The municipalities of Böhlen, Borsdorf, Brandis, Delitzsch, Frohburg, Geithain, Groitzsch, Großpösna, Löbnitz, Markkleeberg, Markranstädt, Naunhof, Neukieritzsch, Pegau, Rackwitz, Rötha, Schkeuditz, Taucha, and Zwenkau are part of the Leipzig New Lakeland region.

Here, natural waterways connect the cultural city of Leipzig with the newly created lakes. By the end of the lignite era, the landscape will have changed completely. Even today, most of the former mining pits have been flooded and opened to the public. Although many villages had to make way for open-cast mining, those that remain are all the more fascinating: between the lakes, there is now a real beach feeling.
