From June to October 2026, you can easily rent bicycles directly at the Tourist Information Leipzig at Katharinenstraße 8 and return them conveniently on site. This service is offered in cooperation with Swapfiets. MDV is turning 25 – and you are invited to celebrate! Until May 31, 2026, you can take part in the big anniversary rally under the motto “One network area – countless experiences.” It starts at Leipzig Central Station and is played digitally using an interactive map. On April 1, 2026, ArkaZien will kick off its first major season. You can look forward to a nature-oriented adventure playground in a rural setting, where children can climb, build, get muddy, and let their imaginations run free. Among wood, water, and plenty of greenery, they can try things out, tinker, and discover together. Behind the play concept is a well‑thought‑out idea that combines nature experiences with learning. From 19 to 22 March 2026, Leipzig transforms into a true literary centre: At the Leipzig Book Fair under the motto “Where stories connect us”, 2,044 exhibitors from 54 countries and thousands of visitors come together to discover new releases, trends and inspiring encounters. At the same time, Europe’s largest reading festival “Leipzig reads (reading festival)” invites you to immerse yourselves in stories with more than 3,000 events at over 300 venues. Current topics such as climate change and climate protection are also on the programme – for example during readings at the advice shop of the city cleaning service.

From 17 to 21 September 2025, Leipzig will become the venue for the event series “To the Point”. Together, the German-French Society, the French Honorary Consulate and the Institut français invite you to celebrate the invention of Braille – a world-changing innovation by Louis Braille from 1825. Look forward to a diverse programme: from readings and concerts to films and panel discussions, all the way to “Experiencing art with your hands”, where galleries, museums and artists present their works in an accessible way. A celebration that opens art and culture to all senses!

From 3 September 2025, the new ArkaZien leisure park near Grimma will offer you a world of adventure full of nature and imagination: built from wood, natural stone and recycled materials. Around 20 themed areas are waiting to be explored – from the secret mine to a willow maze and other imaginative play zones. In addition to its sustainable construction, the park also focuses on regional vegetarian cuisine, avoiding single-use plastic, energy-saving technology and insect-friendly greenery. The park is designed to live and grow with nature.

From 5 to 7 September 2025, the Pittlerwerke in Leipzig will transform into a paradise for all coffee lovers. At the Leipzig Coffee Festival, regional roasters, creative minds and baristas are waiting to show you the full variety of the bean. Try exciting varieties, talk to experts and learn more about sustainable cultivation and coffee culture. In addition to tastings, there will be inspiring talks and plenty of opportunities to dive into Leipzig’s vibrant coffee scene. The festival combines enjoyment with culture and community – perfect for anyone who loves coffee or is curious to discover something new. Join us as Leipzig celebrates its passion for coffee.

On 29 August 2025, it's that time again: hop on your bike and dive into a sea of lights! Together with the Ökolöwen, you will start in Clara-Zetkin Park and ride about ten kilometres across Leipzig – on car-free streets and right through the city centre. The Bike Night is not only a relaxed cycling parade for thousands of Leipzig residents, but also the festive kick-off for STADTRADELN 2025. It sends a strong message for climate protection, safe routes, and a bike-friendly city – all while having plenty of fun.

From 15 to 17 August, Leipzig’s world of waterways will become a summer hotspot: At the 25th Leipzig Water Festival, you can look forward to dragon boat races, the colourful Leipzig Duck Rally, raft‑building action, live music, a harbour flea market and many hands‑on activities – spread across the Karl Heine Canal, Lindenauer Harbour and Plagwitz district park. Organised by Wasser‑Stadt‑Leipzig e. V., the festival shows just how lively and diverse Leipzig’s waterways are. Thanks to the boat shuttle and the e‑carriage, you can move quickly between the different locations.

What do bicycles and music have in common? At the Fête du Vélo on 21 June 2025, quite a lot! Inspired by the Fête de la Musique, this colorful festival brings together people who are excited about sustainable mobility, creative activities, and a great atmosphere. The event kicks off with a concert in the Botanical Garden, and from there you can look forward to a roughly 6-hour tour covering about 20 km across Leipzig – with plenty of music and numerous activities. Participation is free, so hop on your bike and join in!

What does a sustainable lifestyle actually look like – and what does organic have to do with it? You can find the answers from 14 to 26 June directly on Burgplatz! The Bio-Mobile will stop there and invites you to discover organic with all your senses: hands-on activities, information materials, cooking shows, VR stations, children's activities and much more are waiting for you. Together with regional partners, the project “Grenzenlos Regional – Organic in Europe” brings plenty of knowledge and fun to the city. At the nationwide BioBlitz 2025, more than 40 botanical gardens invite you to experience biodiversity live – and Leipzig is part of it! From 14 to 22 June, you can use the iNaturalist app in the Botanical Garden of the University of Leipzig to photograph and identify animals, plants and fungi. Every observation contributes to a shared citizen science project – helping to expand our knowledge of biodiversity right on our doorstep. Join in, rediscover nature and become part of a large network!

A short while ago, the pop-up store “maijuni clean beauty” opened in Leipzig’s Petersbogen. For six months, visitors can experience, test, and purchase high-quality natural cosmetics based on the rare Bulgarian Damask Rose. The brand maijuni stands for sustainable natural cosmetics that combine traditional Balkan herbal knowledge with modern dermatological insights. The precious rose blossoms are hand-picked at dawn and fully controlled in the company’s own production—from cultivation to distillation—ecologically, transparently, and resource-efficiently. The pop-up store offers a holistic shopping experience with product testing, opportunities for exchange, as well as events such as yoga and postnatal courses. Founder Diana Deltschew, herself a Leipzig native, aims to unite nature, sustainability, and well-being.

The new travel guide "Favourite Places in and around Leipzig – sustainable" by Marisa Becker was published in early 2025 and presents over 70 sustainable excursion destinations in Leipzig and the surrounding region. The guide includes numerous places that stand out for their resource-saving concepts, regional products, and environmentally friendly offerings. In addition to sustainable shopping options, it also introduces restaurants, leisure activities, and family-friendly excursion destinations. The book provides inspiring guidance for anyone who wants to explore Leipzig and the region consciously and sustainably. The travel guide is available as both a paperback and an e-book!
