Winter vacations in Leipzig and the region

For some, today marks the end of their very first semester at school. Some others are already stapling their new report cards to those of the first, second or even third grade. But it's certainly exciting for everyone, even the "experienced" ones. Whether you're a youngster or an old hand, the fact is that everyone has earned two wonderful weeks of vacation. A program full of fun, games and knowledge is guaranteed!

The little ones can also learn through play in the city's many child-friendly museums. At INSPIRATAhttps://www.leipzig.travel/poi/inspirata, a center for mathematics and science education, the name says it all: scientific phenomena can be investigated by the pupils themselves. Mathematics and physics are explored without a textbook, but through various experiments.

Vacation kids will also get their money's worth at the Museum of Fine Arts: from January 17 to March 15. The 30th children's and youth exhibition 

The whole thing works as a creative hands-on format. Last year, children and young people were invited to create their own artistic works and submit them for the exhibition. Several accompanying events are also on offer. All further information can be found on the website of the MDBK. It's worth a visit!

At the Museum of Printing Arts in the west of Leipzig, a colourful winter holiday program awaits all vacation kids who like to be creative and love DIYs. Here you can attend great winter holiday courses on several days and, for example, create a color spinning top, build a stamp or print your own logo on a T-shirt or fabric bag.

The courses take place from 10 am to 12 noon and cost just 4 euros per person (with vacation pass, 5 euros without vacation pass). Absolute recommendation!

Few things are as important in the 21st century as digital skills! The Sociocultural Center "Die VILLA" is therefore also opening its media workshop during the winter vacations. Whether it's a photo project, programming or film editing - you'll find PC workstations and all kinds of technology in the villa. The right advice and support is of course also available. Or you can develop your black and white photos in the in-house photo lab - that would be something, wouldn't it?

There is hardly any other place where young and old can be as playfully sporty as in the JUMP House Leipzig! 4700 m² and 10 spectacular attractions - no further words are needed to say that the trampoline hall in Plagwitz stands for pure fun. It's also ideal for a day out with friends or family! Why not try out the VR sensation HOLOGATE. This attraction is where e-sports meets virtual reality. Up to four players, in teams or against each other, can take on a variety of challenges. With snowball fights and virtual dance battles, action and fun are guaranteed!

Would you like to go jumping with your friends? At the holiday jump for groups, you can make your socks glow for 90 minutes in all the jump areas.

If the grown-ups don't feel like doing sports, then a good movie, a soft armchair and tasty snacks will tempt them to one of the many cinemas in Leipzig. How about a visit to the Schauburg in the west of Leipzig, for example? "The most comfortable cinema seats in Leipzig" are spread across three movie theaters and are reminiscent of earlier cinema times. The Regina Palast in Reudnitz is somewhat smaller. Modern, renovated and affordable, the current films (often in the original English) are always shown here. In the heart of the city, the Passage Kinos are also waiting for your visit. Here you can see many films that are rarely shown elsewhere, including arthouse, German films, documentaries and many more. Cinephiles will get their money's worth in Leipzig!

If Mother Hulda dares to come out during the winter vacations, then the white wonderland can definitely be taken advantage of! No matter how old you are: sliding down the hill on a sledge awakens your inner child. Incredible toboggan runs can be found all over Leipzig.

We can recommend two hotspots in the West: At the Leutzscher Wasserschloss, two smaller hills offer a good selection of runs for all toboggan fans. Steep, flat or with a jump ramp: the slope in Leutzsch is an all-rounder. If you continue on to Burghausen, you can enjoy the longest toboggan run in Leipzig. The run on the Bienitz-Berg is a whole 300 m long and fun-filled and bumpy. Unfortunately, the mountain is also very overgrown, which is why children should wear a helmet.

If you want to whizz through the snow on Fockeberg in the southern suburbs, you should be experienced, as the runs there are a little more challenging and steeper. However, there is a mini hill where even the little ones can have fun. In the north-east, Schönefelder Mariannenpark offers a great run for all ages, while at Völkerschlachtdenkmal in the south-east, the runs down the green slopes are not long, but the view there is of course incomparable!

For those who don't want to ski that far out, there are two small hills in Clara Zetkin Park - also known as the small and large wart. These guarantee a quick ascent after the descent. You are also sure to meet some other tobogganists there! From there, it's not far to the city center to warm up with a warm drink afterwards. Tobogganing "with a view" is also available at Kulkwitzer See. There is a small toboggan hill near the boat hire there, which offers a great view of the water.

Castles and palaces have always exerted a special fascination. Their thick walls, towers and magnificent halls tell tales of knights, kings and times long past. Especially during the vacations, they become exciting destinations for excursions: You can wander through historic walls, visit exhibitions, take part in guided tours or simply enjoy the view over the countryside.

If you want to combine culture, nature and history on vacation, the castles and palaces of the Leipzig region offer a variety of experiences for young and old. They inspire with the diversity of creatures from different regions and at the same time offer space to relax, marvel and learn. Animal parks are ideal for shared experiences, especially during the vacations: Feeding sessions, exciting insights into the work of the zookeepers, playgrounds and extensive grounds make the visit varied for young and old.
