Spa resort steeped in tradition

On a walk through the spa town of Bad Lausick, you can discover fascinating witnesses to the town’s more than 900-year history: St. Kilian’s Church from 1105; the town hall designed by Theodor Kösser, the architect of the Mädler Passage; or the Spa and Town Museum on the market square.

Municipality in the Mulde floodplain

Bennewitz is one of the oldest settlements in the Mulde floodplain. Around 1,200 years ago, the Sorbian Wend Bono or Bonislaw the Elder settled here with his family and servants after the Germanic settlers had left their homes during the Migration Period.

The town of red porphyry

Second-oldest camellia north of the Alps

Roßwein is located in the heart of Saxony, in a very scenic setting. Its special sights include a camellia that is over 200 years old, the remaining parts of the old town wall, the postal mile column, the old post office, and the old adit of the silver mine. Along the Freiberger Mulde, you can enjoy wonderful hikes or bike tours.

Castles, parks and Porphyry Land

The municipality of Thallwitz is located at the northernmost tip of the Leipzig region. It is surrounded by the charming floodplain landscape between the Mulde, Lossa, and the Hohburg Hills. Sights worth seeing include Thallwitz Castle from the 16th century, later converted into a hunting lodge in the Neo-Renaissance style, and its enchanting park.

Former manor estate on the Mulde Cycle Route

Trebsen, once one of the largest manor estates in Saxony, is located directly on the Mulde. In the 18th century, an English-style landscape park was created, large parts of which still exist today.

The Ringelnatz town

Even from afar, Wurzen’s silhouette is defined by the towers of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the former bishop’s castle. In addition to its charming old town, the town is also known as the birthplace of the writer, painter, and cabaret artist Joachim Ringelnatz.

Attractions In Saxon Burgenland

Discover the beautiful park grounds of Machern Castle and Landscape Garden, enjoy leisurely rides on the Döbeln Horse Tram or visit the Dornreichenbach Animal Enclosure - all of these are great activities you can experience in Saxon Burgenland. 

Or why not take a look at the surroundings from above? Various observation towers such as the Wachberg Tower in Waldheim give you this opportunity. A little tip: many observation towers are also great destinations for hiking and cycling. 

Speaking of cycling: cycling tours, whether ambitious or relaxed, are never boring in Saxon Burgenland. The Mulde Cycle Path is one of the best-known cycle paths in the region. Start your tour in the Boot Town of Döbeln and discover a unique landscape along the Freiberger and Vereinigte Mulde, with typical floodplains and wetlands full of special flora and fauna!

The Geopark "Porphyrland. Steinreich in Sachsen" is the 15th National Geopark in Germany and offers visitor centers as well as special geo-routes for discovery tours in the surrounding area. Find out more about the importance of porphyry for the region at the five geoportals in the Leipzig region. Since September 2024, the new exhibition “Supervolcanoes in Saxony” can also be visited at Geoportal Röcknitz.

In the majestic walls of a castle, jazz resounds, blues notes fill the impressive manor house, and Hollywood melodies are celebrated in the open air - the BurgenLandKlänge event series offers impressive music in breathtaking settings all year round.

In addition to music, there is always plenty going on at the castles and palaces, such as the annual knights' spectacle with castle and old town festival at Mildenstein Castle in Leisnig, the Castle of Fairy Tales at Kriebstein Castle, the International Highland Games at Trebsen Castle or the castle Christmas markets in Colditz and Rochlitz.

For literature enthusiasts and fans of the German writer, Wurzen is highly recommended in late summer: Since its founding in 2002, the RingelnatzSommer has become a firmly established part of the events calendar in the picturesque small town on the Mulde river. This culture and literature festival attracts numerous visitors from all over Central Germany every year. 

UNESCO has declared organ music and organ building in Germany to be Intangible Cultural Heritage. Every year, the “Queen of Instruments” resounds at numerous events under the Faszination Orgel brand.
